End of Year Message 2013: A Refreshing Way To Live (Matthew 5:1-3). Whenever we come to the end of any year, we always reflect back and it can be easy to become deflated or depressed over the things we planned to achieve and yet somehow failed or did not follow through. And then when we think about Jesus' words, "Be perfect as your Father in heaven is perfect"... it hits us like a crushing hammer how much we fall short. The reality of being human is that we all struggle with something the Bible describes as the sinful nature - the natural tendency to do more things that are wrong than right because of our moral bankruptcy. There is no person - except for Jesus Christ alone - who is able to stand up and say, "I am the example of perfection... everybody look at me!" And it is for this reason that we all require a Saviour. But God has given us a way to be refreshed and has enabled us to live in a refreshing way that genuinely taps into the blessings that come from living in the Kingdom of God. And it is very simply, but profoundly, contained in the first of Jesus' Beatitudes... "Blessed are the poor in spirit". Ps. Johnny opens this up to help believers who are honest with themselves about their struggles in the Christian walk and how to be refreshed. A very different message to what is generally heard in many circles.
